Southern Region Outdoor Recreation Inventory Assessment

Hello.
On behalf of the National Extension Tourism Network Outdoor Recreation (OR) working group, we are developing a regional inventory of OR-related extension, outreach and research being conducted within the U.S. southeast. Your input will help us better define the scope of expertise and programming being conducted in our region as well as common issues and needs faced in the southeast region (Texas through North Carolina including Puerto Rico and the USVI). The Cooperative Extension System and Sea Grant have been engaged in research, education, and outreach to support communities’ tourism and OR efforts for more than 50 years, with the National Extension Tourism Network (NET) at the forefront of this work. OR, inherently transdisciplinary, intersects and elevates all core Extension program areas. However, only a handful of Extension staff around the country have a primary focus in OR. Most OR programming is developed and delivered in response to a community need by Extension staff who work in a program area that intersects with OR. Because of this interdisciplinary approach to OR, the Southern Region’s NET working group is developing an inventory of Extension and research activities to help us assess the scope of expertise across the Southern Region.
